I don’t think I’m being too partisan when I declare that 2020 has been a hard year for many people. In fact, we’re pretty rid of the whole idea of 2020 altogether!

5. Waitrose and John Lewis

It’s no surprise that many adverts this year are about community and giving back, which is what John Lewis and Partner’s ad brings in spades with their contribution: “Give a Little Love”

But before we wave a cheery middle finger to everything this year has become, we thought it would be nice to take a step back and look at something that never fails to disappoint: Christmas adverts

4. Argos
The company behind the mighty catalogue have teamed up with much loved British singer Gary Barlow to give us all a good ol’ heaping of childhood nostalgia to go with that turkey and gravy. Although kids today aren’t quite so likely to be leafing through an Argos catalogue, I think we all agree that their video “An Evening with AbracaDaisy & The Incredible Lucy” is simply Incredible!

3. Tesco
British supermarket Tesco is putting a spin on things this year by declaring there’s no naughty list! A little bit controversial for both kids and adults alike it seems but at the very least the ad seems to be giving off some tongue in cheek vibes.

2. Barbour
Famous UK jackpot maker Barbour has teamed up with Children’s book author and illustrator Raymond Briggs to create a Christmas classic with a lot of heart.

Honourable Mentions
Before we unveil our favourite Christmas advert of 2020, let’s take a look at some champions from the honourable mentions box!

Asda
This year’s festive ad sees the return of real-life Asda superfan, Sunny and his family for an Asda priced Christmas!

DFS
Sofa dealer DFS has teamed up with Wallace and Gromit to give a heartwarming animated Christmas carol session!

LEGO
A blue horse. A hotdog tree? Doesn’t sound very Christmassy but we’ll take it!

Sainsbury’s
Apparently, Sainsbury’s couldn’t decide with advert they liked more this year, so they gave us 3! And we couldn’t be happier about it! All the adverts hint at the idea of being away for Christmas, with a perfect twist of home-movie action and conversations with family over the phone.

1. DocMorris
German companyDoc Morris has scooped the top prize this year for its advert about a grandad lifting weights. Sounds more like a #newyearsresolution than a Christmas message, until you get to the end of the ad. Totally heartwarming and just what we needed to see in 2020.
