Nothing stands in the way of Christmas eve! Here are some great ways that people are beating back on COVID-19 this year with Christmas eve celebrations both new and old!

UK! Stand up and ring those bells!
Mary Beggs-Reid, from Harrogate, North Yorkshire has come up with a way to quite literally “ring in” some festive cheer: a socially distanced Bell-A-Thon!

Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his fiancee Carrie Symonds are backing the plan to ring bells at 18:00 GMT around the UK, with the public urged to “give a bell” to anyone that may be celebrating alone this year.

Ugly Sweaters on Zoom!
These people are not letting Jack Frost nip at their nose! 2020 has brought us a lot of changes, but the strangest of all is that people actually like getting ugly sweaters now? Yes, apparently your nan’s knitting is very in vogue on skype this year, with stores both online and on the highstreet unable to keep Christmas sweaters in stock!

Christmas Eve? Fish for dinner, please!
With extra time to spend prepping for Christmas, more and more households have been able to plan for the day before Christmas. More specifically, what to eat? Apparently, the ideal solution is fish! That’s right beans on toast, you’ve been chased back to the breakfast menu!

It’s no surprise that our pescatarian pals are calling on a no-meat Christmas eve this year, with more of us set to dine on pork and poultry come Christmas day than ever before! From Scallops to Sushi, everyone this year is making it a Fish Thursday!

If the idea of fish is not your favourite, or if you don’t have time to cook this Christmas eve, do not forget to support your local takeaways and restaurants so you can eat whatever Christmas Eve meal tickles your fancy!

Midnight Mass 2020 style
Although many churches are exempt from Coronavirus restrictions, many churchgoers are opting to stay home and watch midnight mass online this year. For more details on your local churches this year, visit www.achurchnearyou.com or celebrate midnight mass online on Youtube.

Tracking Father Christmas!
Mr Klaus has been declared vaccinated and ready for airspace with Norad! This team of helpers has had a lot of practice with tracking Santa, after all, this will be their 65th year of working with the man in red himself!

The team at Norad are poised with their jingle bells to track Kris Kringle around the globe, and you can too! Don’t forget to put out the mince pies and reindeer carrots! At ATBL we’ll be watching the night sky and snuggled down in our caps for a long winter’s nap!
